Designing corporate events people actually remember
We see a lot of organisations putting in a lot of effort into their corporate events. The setting is right, the agenda is packed, and the speakers are carefully selected. And many of these events are very well executed. But what really defines whether an event works is something else entirely.
When people leave, they don’t think back on slide 27 or the exact run of the agenda. They remember the overall experience. Whether the day felt clear, energising, relevant. Whether it brought people closer together or gave them a sense of direction.
And that is where the real potential of an event lies.
The power of shared moments
The best events are built around moments, not just content.
Moments where something clicks.
Moments where people see themselves in the story.
Moments that spark conversations that continue after the event.
These don’t have to be big or dramatic. In fact, they are often quite simple. A team sharing their journey in their own words. A short film that makes the strategy feel more human. A well-designed exercise that gets people talking to someone they rarely speak to.
This is what creates that sense of togetherness that events are uniquely good at. Not just being in the same room, but actually sharing something meaningful.
And yes, there should be space for a bit of fun too. The moments where people smile, relax, and connect as people, not just as roles. That balance is often what makes the day feel complete.
It starts earlier than you think
One of the biggest missed opportunities in corporate events is timing. Because the truth is, the event does not start when people walk through the door.
It starts when they first hear about it. When expectations are set. When the first piece of communication gives them a sense of what is coming and why it matters.
If that part is missing, people arrive without context. And if there is no clear follow-up, they leave without direction. That is why we always design events as part of a broader journey. Before, during, and after.
Before, we create clarity and anticipation.
During, we build a coherent and engaging experience.
After, we make sure the energy is not lost, but turned into something people can actually use.
It is this full journey that turns a good day into something that creates lasting value.
Where clarity meets experience
The strongest events have a clear narrative running through them. A storyline that connects the different elements and makes it easy to understand what this event is about and why it matters.
At the same time, the experience needs to feel considered. The flow of the day, the way speakers are introduced, the pacing, the atmosphere in the room, how the venue is dressed up. These details shape how people take things in.
When these two sides work together, something shifts. The message becomes easier to understand. The day feels more engaging. And people leave with a clearer sense of what it all means.
Designing events that actually make a difference
At Open, we do not see events as standalone moments. We see them as opportunities to move organisations forward.
That means being clear from the start on what the event should achieve. It means designing the experience around real people and not just content. And it means paying attention to both the big picture and the small details that make everything come together.
Sometimes that involves sharpening a strategic story. Sometimes it is about creating the right moments in the room. And sometimes it is simply about making the experience feel more human and more connected.
The result is not just an event that runs well. It is an event that people talk about afterwards. One that creates clarity, energy and alignment in a way that lasts beyond the day itself.
Because in the end, that is what people bring with them when they leave. The experience as a whole. And how it made them feel.
